Today we were back at Building Futures, a wonderful charity who set up an emergency food bank as a response to those facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Anji, Dan and I arrived at the task and were told that we would be packing over 100 bags today! Some of these bags would include ambient and long life food (such as bread, pasta, tinned foods and cereals), some bags would contain fresh vegetables and potatoes that had been donated and some bags would be hygiene bundles which would contain toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, deodorant and other hygiene products.

We got straight into the task, with Dan making a start on the ambient bags while Anji and I completed the hygiene bundles. We finished these quickly and Anji made a start on the bags containing fresh vegetables while I helped Dan to pack the ambient foods.

While we were there, other donations arrived, including a huge pallet of pasta! It's fantastic to see that the food bank has received donations from so many businesses and individuals to help those in need in the local area.

We completed all 102 bags in under 2 hours which is incredible (even more so when you realise that Anji is currently sporting a moon boot!)

We had a brilliant time and can't wait for our next task with Building Futures.

East End Women
A project supporting women with skills and training, education, loneliness and domestic abuse recovery.

East End Women offers practical courses for women to build confidence and skills around DIY, sewing, pattern cutting and basic trades. We also deliver the Freedom Programme domestic abuse recovery course, helping women to better understand the roots of domestic abuse and build confidence to identify warning signs in the future. In addition to this, East End Women also offer social activities and drop-in sessions for women experiencing isolation to meet one another, make friends and build local networks.
