Following a brief photo session for the Sheffield Telegraph (keep an eyeout for Thurs issue!) outside our new home of the Showroom Cinema our photogenic crew ran past our old home of the Copthorne Hotel at Bramall Lane, onto Queens road and up to Heeley City Farm to meet Jon from REACH Homes.
Jon, kindly offered us all a drink on arrival and gave us a brief on the project, its construction, aims and future plans for the organisation to bring more sustainable and affordable houses to Sheffield largely made from recycled and reclaimed materials - a great project to be part of!
After the brief we got straight to it, splitting into teams:
*Team Sleepers (shifting, not sleeping)
*Team Dig into really tough soil!
*Team Insulation Tetras into back of the van
*Team Sort rubble from soil into wheelbarrows
*Team Shift the rubble in to sacks
After shifting all the sleepers (twice), moving the insulation into the van and making a great start on the path and shifting the rubble we had a heartfelt thanks from Jon, a quick peek into the fantastic show home and headed off to a local park for some fitness.
This week we used a new park which has some great space to exercise, including a marked 400m loop and even a set of floor chimes where we all enjoyed making our own tune!
Everyone did a fantastic job on the fitness fiesta this week taking multiple 400m loops in their stride as well as adding in the following:
*Tri Dips
*Box Jumps
*Pull Up's
*Press Up's
On the run back we had a brief wall sit through the underpass as we cheered our team on before returning to the Showroom for some stretching and chatter with a drink.
Make sure you have signed up for next weeks run to Regather, it's going to be a great one!
GoodGym Sheffield is funded by Age Better in Sheffield in association with South Yorkshire Housing Association and the Big Lottery fund. Find out about the project here and sign up to visit an older person with GoodGym and end social isolation in Sheffield here
Reach homes is an affordable eco-housing scheme which has grown out of the fantastic work we have been able to do at, and the amazing team that works at, Strip the Willow. While looking in to new houses for ourselves we soon realised that we could provide truly affordable, full-spec eco homes for everyone at a fraction of the cost of traditional housing.
