Seven runners ran 8.5km to help with the pond tyre wall at Saffron Acres

With sickness causing some regulars to miss our trip to Saffron Acres, seven hardy souls ventured on one of our longer running commutes to continue the work we started last month at Saffron Acres. One more visit and I reckon we'll have cracked it! Tonight we welcomed Tim along to his first GoodGym adventure and celebrated Jeanette's achievement of completing her first (and not last!) marathon.

To avoid the traffic we took a marginally longer but immeasurably more peaceful route along the River Soar for the bulk of the route before heading up the Duncan Road hill past the home of cricket to our task site at Saffron Acres. The Saffron Acres team do some wonderful work in our community which you can find out more about here. We're going to make it our mission to get hold of some of the jam they produce.

Continuing where we left off on our last visit, we emptied the tyres of the soil and weeds, building the soil into a ramp to access the platform overlooking the pond and replacing the empty tyres into their wall formation. Jeanette, Jimmy, Katy, Tim and Huw set to work emptying the tyres into wheelbarrows or rolling the tyres full of soil directly down to the ramp while Irene and Lindsay carried out sterling work building the soil ramp down by the platform. New techniques for the job were developed including the full tyre rolling and Katy and Tim came up with an innovative way to store their spades safely, hanging them on the tree! With a small squad we made great progress again and one more visit should see us finish off that task completely. Despite a lack of treats from Mel (get well soon!) to fuel our run back, we again took the slightly longer route back along the river, returning to DMU a fraction later than planned but with a job certainly well done!

Well done everyone, a super effort once again!
