Sunday 2nd March
Report written by Nick Moore
For the first time in what seems like forever, blue skies greeted us at the Fields this morning, although it was still pretty chilly and muddy underfoot in places, so some care was needed! These spring like conditions also meant we had our biggest field of participants in quite a few weeks, and it was great to see so many runners (and their coaches/parents/cheerleaders) arrive at the big tree just before 9 this morning ready to run.
We were also helped by having some extra volunteers lend their support today as part of their DoE awards training, and before long the course was all set up, with Sarah showing our newer volunteers the course set up at the southern end, and the marshals sent out to the corners of the course in readiness for the off.
Run director Rue led the warm up with the now familiar Hackney Haka, and then 42 runners (plus their coaches) sprinted off the line and around the yellow marker poles and cones - thankfully there were no slip ups along the way, and with Sooz acting as tail walker to ensure no-one was left behind, it wasn't long before everyone was back at the finish, and we soon had everything packed up for another week.
6 first timers and 11 PBs confirmed it had been another successful morning. See you next week for more fun at the Fields.
