Report written by Katherine (she/her)
We had a last minute change of task this week to help out the SYDNI Centre in the Sydenham area of Leamington Spa.
Tonight's task was delivering some leaflets to local houses near the Centre, putting a shout out to ask for some regular volunteers to support the great work that the Centre does. There are lots of exciting volunteering opportunities available including helping with the food co-op, helping with running of the cafe, opportunities to help with teaching English as a second language and helping with garden maintenance.
Thankfully the rain showers from earlier in the day had passed by the time of our group run, so we managed to stay dry and had the leaflets delivered in no time; there was even a little daylight left by the time the last leaflet was delivered!
We are hoping to be back at the Centre to support with some of their gardening maintenance in the not too distant future!
Sydenham Neighbourhood Initiatives, or SYDNI for short, is a community-based initiative and was set up to address the issues particular to Sydenham, an estate with a population of approximately 5,000 residents. The residents are from many different countries each with a much loved cultural background and language; includes Asian, Portuguese and Polish Communities.
