Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Six tough mudders joined forces tonight for the first stage of Barnet’s pond project – converting a derelict space into a frog’s dream home.
After a short saunter to the Archer Academy, the runners collected their weapons of choice and headed behind the school’s sports pitches to the wildlife zone.
With help from one of the school’s teachers, Goodgym dug deep to create a two metre-wide pit. Hazel left no stone unturned with her pick axe-tion, while Damian’s speedy shovelling shifted tons of soil. Not forgetting, Dorian's digging deeds did us proud.
The runners showed enthusiasm and grit, braving the weather and literally giving all their strength to the task. And it didn’t go unnoticed. GoodGym has been invited back to finish the pond, shift sand and plant trees.
Once Freya and Jody were entirely covered in clay, the runners turned to turf for the second half of the evening’s session; a football-fun workout. Pennie pitted the athletes against each other for an impromptu three-a-side mini match.
It’d be fair to say GoodGym Barnet isn’t ready for the Premier League just yet, but it was a great workout with tons of sprinting. And a sprinkling of press-ups at the end of the session...naturally!
Thank you everyone for bringing your A-game tonight. This was a great task and a brilliant reminder of the fun you can have while doing good.
See you next week, when we will be running back to Community Focus to prep the ground for flowers, we hope you can make it! It's all hands on deck for this one!

Ps. *Barnet biscuit * this week was chocolate chip cookies with oreos inside. Hazel, we bow down to your badass baking skills!
Pps. Brownie points for the Phoenix cinema (our meeting point), who tonight were showing the film “I, Daniel Blake” for free so that folks who can’t afford London cinema prices could still enjoy the movie. The film’s director even came along for the screening.
