Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Simon Fitzmaurice
4 Goodgymmers from across the boroughs braved the looming rainfall to come and help out at the monthly Friends of Crouch End Open Space (CREOS) volunteering day. Glenys (the main volunteer coordinator) met us at the usual meeting spot (tennis court car park, just off Park Road), and introduced us to another volunteering crew called The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), who are based in Haringey. They have been taking on some ambitious forest maintenance projects in the local area- check them out here: https://www.tcv.org.uk/.
Jamie joined a small team to help with clearing out ditches using shovels and spades (clearing a run-off section for excess rainfall), while Eilidh assisted with clearing the overgrown weeds and wild grass from the main meadow section of the open space. Karen helped out with shifting lots of silt and soil from loads of gulleys lining the main forest footpaths (whilst also saying "Hello" to adorable dogs), and AA Simon walked the paths, clearing overgrown sections with clippers to improve accessibility. We covered a lot of ground over the 90 minutes of our session, and met lots of friendly locals (plenty of "Thank Yous" from walkers, runners and families, and a lot of inquiries about helping out for future volunteering meet-ups).
Great to be back in this lovely green space. Sign up to our next session here:
