Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by York runner
19 GoodGym folk (plus Fergs the GoodGym dog) headed over to Wharfedale for our inaugral Monthly walk.
We welcomed Ru - Hi Ruth! to her first GG outing and then headed up the hill through Hole Bottom (no sniggering please) and up Hebden Gill with the first of several bonus detours to look at the waterfall.
Accompanied by some sort of motorbike scrambling competition we headed up to the disused lead mines for the second bonus detour of the day - despite seeing the powder house, the old engine shaft and some sheep/cow bones Amy was not impressed
Rejoining our route via another bonus detour to climb over a dry stone wall we headed down the hill into Grassington to eat our picnics with Paultaking over navigation duties (far more reliable)
Only pausing briefly for a pint in The Forresters Arms we were off again to see our second waterfall of the day at Linton.
We briefly considered crossing the semi submerged slippery stepping stones but after a splashy test run by Sherilyn and a bit of stone skimming we retreated back via the bridge over the falls to follow the river back towards Hebden accompanied by Goosanders (not ducks Abi!)
We assembled on the footbridge for one last photo with an unsuspecting couple roped into our photo who were just trying to cross the bridge!
More stepping stones and stone skimming with Ed almost taking out Lyndsey as she crossed like some medieval aquatic dodgeball
Then it was back to the Old Schoolhouse for cake
All in all a lovely 10km / 10 miles ish walk, we stayed mostly on course and no one drowned
Ed is leading next months edition including a marshalling volunteering opportunity - maybe that one will be the advertised distance - who knows?
