A bumper 15 for a sub-zero group run to the lovely Emmaus - a bit of pavement and traffic-crossing, a bit of underpass and cobbles, all the sights and sounds of Bristol.

We met with Ewa and Satya who explained what Emmaus does, and whetted our appetites for the task ahead. On the other side of a door. Not just a locked door. A double locked door with an access pad's stubbornly red light.

Have I mentioned it was sub-zero?

Decision made, no matter how hard Tim pushed the door, or Richard G calmly explained to Ewa on the other side of aforementioned door, it was the magical mystery tour route through the office, shop, lift (that can apparently hold 21 people) and we got into the warehouse in the exact opposite of an escape room.

Then it was into the actual task - sorting the electrical donations into those with the all-important CE mark (so can be sold on in the shops) and those without, then those without into vintage (chop off the plug and sell it as non-electrical) and Curry's Electrical Recycling cage - sometimes from a distance.

Finds included Phill's Philishave special and not one but three crockpots. When the shelves of donations had been cleared, it was time to restack all the CE- marked items so they could be PAT-tested by responsible people.

It was great to have Colleen along for her first Group Run and to know we made a difference in the warehouse before the run back and GoodGym Eats at The Stable, sadly without organiser Alice W as she teated positive for Covid during the afternoon - get well soon, Alice!

We believe that people who are homeless and socially excluded have something to offer. We encourage people to use their skills to change themselves – and change the world.

We know that overcoming homelessness often means more than a roof over your head. That’s why we support people to work their way out of homelessness, providing meaningful work as well as a stable home for as long as someone needs it.
