Today was the second time Age Concern have run their Saturday Friendship Club for local residents to drop in for refreshments and socialising.
I joined some of the regular volunteers to help serve teas and coffees, before there was a free homemade lunch of soup, soda bread and for dessert fruit pie and custard/ fresh cream.
The centre was humming with the sound of conversations, music and games going on. 25 older people came to the club today. Connect 4, cards, scrabble and then local resident Don took me through my first game of Draughts in about 30 years. Whether it was beginners luck or Don getting distracted by the offers of biscuits and lunch I don’t know but I managed to claim more of his pieces and win. Not that I’m at all competitive!
We’ll be back helping the next Saturday Friendship Club on 8th March.
