Report written by Lauren
This evening we returned to Southampton City Farm for our second monthly visit. We were joined by farm manager Tom and a super team of farm volunteers who all worked together to move manure from the top of the farm down to some newly built beds at the bottom of the farm.
Wilson, Ellie, Lucy and Lauren got to work shovelling the poop into very large wheelbarrows. Tom told us we would see rats in the muck heap but fortunately we didn't come across any rat friends this evening.
Freddie, Alice and farm volunteer Danni were kept busy moving straw with rakes off of the path and back into contained sections, Freddie also trimmed back the nettles which were encroaching on the path!
We were lucky to see the cute animals again this evening. Penny pig was particularly vocal and wanted to join the fun!
Once the poop was in the wheelbarrows each one had to be wheeled from the top of the farm to the bottom to the raised beds where farm volunteer Helen was filling up. Tom wasn't lying when he said it would be a task that would give us lots of exercise!
Its safe to say, we all had a great time and now we're all pooped out! We will look forward to seeing what the farm has in store for us next month 😊
