Feeling the July heat, 20 runners covered an epic 7km and worked on a brand new task at Dalmain Primary School.

A very big welcome and all our Lewisham Love goes this week to Sophie, who joined us for her very first GoodGym group run!

We had some interesting and unusual running going on over the weekend. Well done to Jacqueline (and her family), who took part in the Family Marathon, covering the marathon distance between them...IN THAT HEAT! Amazing work. Clare and Stephen took on a leg of the London City Relay (in the early hours of the morning!), an event which is taking place 24/7 for the whole of July (with the GoodGym takeover being July 11th)! Why not take a look and sign up (volunteers needed too)? It's a fundraising event, with money helping homeless people in London.

We are always excited to visit a brand new task and tonight we were heading a little further afield to Dalmain Primary School. A big thank you, as always to a top team, with Kim leading the way, Stephen taking care of the middle of the group and Clare keeping us together as back-marker. There's no avoiding a hill heading in this direction, so well done to everyone for not only a longer run, but a hilly one at that!

We were met at the school by Joe, who quickly told everyone what needed doing. We very soon had people working in all parts of the playground:

  • Pulling up weeds around the wall in the main area (with a bit of bouldering and monkey - bar - business thrown in)
  • Tidying up a raised bed, chopping, pruning, digging and picking
  • Painting some massive tractor tyres bright colours
  • Sweeping up sand
  • Painting some wooden poles buttercup yellow

With our run being longer, we had a tight time slot, but managed, with a last concentrated push to complete the tasks set for us, good work! I think we may well be back here in future weeks, to continue the good work, or to venture into the wildlife garden across the road, which was billed as 'a task and a half', sounds right up our street!

Our run back swept down towards Glass Mill, where we had a quick stretch and a chat about Saturday - a pre-parkrun litter-pick and a parkrun birthday (Vic). Next week's task takes us to GRACE, where we will be working in the new space next door, giving it a good clean and also using our skills in construction to rebuild some cots that have got a bit muddled up! Sign up here.

See you soon!
