Report written by Char Binns
11 runners ran 4.7km to tidy up a community sports centre in Kensington.
On another blue-skied evening in Liverpool (no really!) our marvellous 11 ran the short stretch to Kensington. On route they tackled a previously unmentioned hill and barely even complained ;)
We quickly reached Jubilee Sports Bank where we were greeted by staff member Laura and a roll of bin bags. Gloves on and the team was ready to go, transforming an outside area by removing many bagsful of litter. In and amongst the plastic bottles and crisp wrappers, a few items of interest were found including a pair of shoes, a hoodie and what was almost certainly a burner phone!
Taking advantage of Jubilee Sports Banks lovely open playing field (sorry again to the hay fever sufferers) we had a slightly chaotic fun fitness session, (very) loosely based on the Eurovision Song Contest – go team Spain! – followed by some speed play.
On the downhill route home Tony led us on a scenic long-cut, rounding off a lovely evening.
Shout-outs go to first-timer AJ who kept the pace and got stuck in at the task, and to Colin for volunteering to be our trusty back-marker.
Next week is a longer run of 5km in both directions, but we're extending the session so that more runners can join us. We'll finish at 20:30 meaning that we have 2 hours to complete the run and the task, so if you're a newer runner but up for a challenge don't be put off by the distance. It would be great to have as many pairs of hands as possible as we'll be helping a brilliant community-led project called MyClubmoor. So get signing-up!
Good luck to everyone taking part in the Liverpool Rock’n’Roll Marathon and Half Marathon this weekend. If you're not running, come gives us a cheer #RedThunder.
See you next time, Char <3
