... the sharp end of litter picking.
Tonight's task was a litter pick at Train Wood, which is the start of the old Norwich Railway line, which is now used as a public pathway. It's only about half a mile from The Forum, which meant plenty of time for some extra activities after the task :-)
There were some fantastic race achievements from the weekend - Carl won Catton ParkRun on Saturday, Rowena was fastest female at the East Coast Half Marathon and Catherine got a PB at (I think) Catton ParkRun... and I did far too many squats at CrossFit! A massive well done to you though.
This week Bill volunteered to be back runner and he also had his docs checked so he can go on Coach and Mission runs.
After a little warm up of Indian File we headed through the city and arrived at the task, where Alan was waiting to greet us with bin bags, litter pickers and gloves... and a sharps box.
Our lovely group of volunteers paired themselves up and off they went for 35 minutes of litter picking.
1st stop, Kate & Melanie found 2 needles for the sharps box I was carrying around for anyone who found any.
Aside from the needles there was lots of rubbish to collect too as its a very popular place for people to go.
Instead of having some lovely music playing to get us in the relaxed mood... we had to make do with the sound of a domestic argument the other side of the river :-( at which one point they made remarks to some of us for watching!
So after a good litter pick session, the group regathered at the start and grouped the bin bags together.
Alan then mentioned that for each person that signed his special book, a new tree would be planted at Train Wood so we all signed that then headed off to tackle Grapes Hill (I swear it never gets any easier!).
We then went to Chapelfield Gardens to finish up with a fitness session. The 1st part was a timed loop of the gardens, which is about 600 meters. Everyone's times are getting faster now too. The 2nd part was a pairs workout of 5 rounds of 10x Squats + High-5's, 10x Push-ups + High-5's and 10x Sit-ups + High 5's, which was followed by a Wheelbarrow Race... lets just say some did better than others on the last part!
Next week's run is a longer distance of 5.5km each way so for this I recommend you are able to run 5km. The shorter tasks will be back soon don't you worry!
Details of some upcoming social events will be posted on the weekly email that I'll be sending round later in the week.

I think my wheelbarrow wheel needs oiling as I'm a bit stiff and sore today!!
