Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Paul Salman
Barnet Council recently initiated a climate emergency and asked local people to support and commit to sustainable activities. Below are a few comments from goodgym Members who responded to the initiative.
It’s interesting how often things that are better for the environment will also improve our own health and well-being.
Latoya committed to walk to the station rather than catching the bus.
Richard said ‘It is a very nice initiative from Barnet Council. I love sustainability. By the way buying fruits and veg without plastic is a great challenge in Tesco. I wish they change their attitude.’
Harvey has made the following suggestion: We each commit to an action on https://count-us-in.com/ then post it on our social media? Spreading the word is easy!
Paul committed to using a bike as much as possible. Substantially cutting down eating meat. Supporting other groups and organisations working on sustainability. Engage with local politicians on the subject. Support tree planting with the Earth Watch Tiny Forest initiative. https://earthwatch.org.uk/get-involved/tiny-forest. Goodgym looks to promote sustainable activities in our community. We do this by physically supporting local green spaces. Building fitness and resilience in our members. Encouraging active travel. Cycling walking, running. Discover and engage with our local environment and its communities. Check out our reports https://www.goodgym.org/areas/barnet/reports What’s my motivation? If we physically engage with our environment (and its communities) studies show it improves our sense of well being and connection. Active travel improves our health and of the environment.
