Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
15 hardy Hackney GoodGymers ran 6k to the Beautiful Hackney Wick community garden to dig over 60 square metres of ground in preparation for a polly tunnel and shovel, shift and pile 1 Tonne of mulch.
On a rainy Tuesday we welcomed two brand new GoodGymers to the fold as well as a GoodGym tourist and got down to a proper GoodGym task!
Our very talkative 3k out towards the Olympic park and River Lea expertly lead by Peter so hop along could have a chat at the back. Exploring the very edge of the Hackney landscape we nestled our way into Hackney Wick community garden helped over the line by Kirsty from the project and seeing our first Christmas lights of the year.
With no time to waste we split up into 2 groups for a full 45 minutes of physical action!! The first group got their dig on turning over and clearing 60 square meters of prime polly tunnel real estate! Forking hell out of the ground, raking it over and removing anything that was not meant to be there.
The second group got down to the big challenge of the evening shovelling, carrying and tipping a Tonne of mulch that was blocking the entrance to the garden!
A big effort was required to get the jobs done and we were in fine form this evening, finding our rhythm early and maintaining a strong pace all the way through. The diggers completed with 5 minutes to spare then we threw everything into the last few loads of mulch and with some epic overtime action from the speedy runners we completed the mission!!
The steady paced runners lead the run back to base keeping a great smooth cadence all the 3k back. While we were hunted down by the speedy runners as they dropped in some monster splits to get back just after us with a 6 minute cushion to make up.
A few static stretches and a heads up about next weeks task at Mabley Green sign up here and the monthly social at Tad kebab house.
Here is all the information on the GoodGym Christmas party.
Have a great week and think positive thoughts for me on Sunday!!
Smooth shovelling
