Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)
With the never-ending rain in the morning, Sam was worried no one would show up for this task! He arrived twenty minutes early to ensure he knew where the place was and that everything was setup. He was kindly greeted by Sarah, Lou and Helen, who are spearheading the refurbishment of this scout's boathouse in Putney (the only non-private boathouse in the area).
Over the course of Saturday morning, Sam was keeping an eye on the attendance list - as it went from 11 to 7... and he was worried no one would show up. Thus, he was ecstatic to see fellow GoodGymers; JP, Alice and Mia arrive! These sturdy GoodGymers battled through the elements (even though the sun was starting to shine AND it was an indoor task) to come to the scout's aid.
The task was simple: to paint three walls (two pale grey and one blue) in the upstairs room of the boat house, which they would like to turn into a 'chill-out area' for the scouts and eventually/potentially to rent out for events.
Lou provided the overalls, but only Sam took them whilst the other GoodGymers didn't mind getting a little bit dirty 😉🎨🚿
It is amazing how therapeutic painting walls can be as there was a definite 10-15 minutes where everyone was concentrating on painting without saying a word. We painted, spoke about how amazing GoodGym is, had some tea breaks and painted some more (second coating). Two hours whizzed by and we were pretty much done and dusted. Sarah, Lou and Helen thanked us all, but stayed behind to finish off the paint job with a couple of dabs (not the dance move).
They will surely ask for our assistance in the future and we will surely be there to help them!
Thanks to everyone that came today - JP, Alice and Mia! Hopefully, you'd enjoyed it as much as I did!
