9 awesome runners ran 5km to help out at the Deborah Ubee Trust!

We had a great turnout again last night including a lovely new runner, Cathryn - give her a cheer and make her feel part of the squad! It was great to meet you and hope you had a good first run with us!

Bear with me...

It's becoming a bit of a thing recently where we do the warm up and my intro of the warm up usually goes a bit like this... "Ok we are going to play a little game, bear with me as it might be a bit sketchy but just go with it..."

So I just want to say thank you guys for always being so patient and willing to give these games a go! Last night we played one called The Sharks Are Coming. Everyone runs around and then I shout "the sharks are coming", then everyone shouts "how many" then I say a number and everyone has to form groups of that number. If anyone is left over, then they're out of the game and have to do star jumps until the end! Well we quickly saw who the true friends were. When the competition hotted up, Steve ditched his own brother at the drop of a hat and swam himself to a joint victory with Christian!

After all that sharking around, we set off, along the river and about 10 minutes later we arrived. We were greeted by the lovely Sally who explained to us a bit about the organisation and also about the task at hand. There were lots of glass windows and doors to be cleaned and also a bit of weeding in the beds outside. Christian & Alex took to the weeds whilst everyone else grabbed a cloth and got started on the glass doors.

Cathryn and Steve had clearly done this before as they were even talking window cleaning tactics.. buffing and whatnot. After about 15 minutes or so, all the glass was sparkling and it was all hands on deck outside in the weeding zone. And in no time we were done! A photo of the boys and their big bucket of weed, then we went back in to say bye to Sally before we set off again.

To make the run a little longer, we ran through the foot tunnel and did the fitness session over in Island Gardens for a change of scenery. We got in a good full body workout with some squats (glute strength), planks (core), step ups (agility), tricep dips (because runners never work on their upper body!) and finished off with some lunges (more glutes!). We had a nice little audience, two little kids who joined in, as well as an old lady who was joining in from afar! So don't be surprised if we get some new recruits for next week!

A jog back through the foot tunnel, followed by a little stretch and we were done. The choc chip cookies were calling us.

Social next week!

As our marvellous social sec, Alex will be organising another little social next week, possibly at the Cutty Sark pub, so join us next Wednesday for a run and some drinks and food afterwards!

Great job last night everyone! We smashed through that task and hopefully we can go back in a few weeks to do the painting! Awesome job in the fitness session too!
