Why Static Holds in Yoga Are Amazing for Your Body
In yoga, we often hold poses like Plank or Warrior II for what might feel like forever—but there’s a reason! These static holds, known as isometric exercises, are incredibly beneficial for our health.
Dr. Jamie O’Driscoll, a cardiovascular physiology expert, highlights how isometric exercises (like the plank) can significantly lower blood pressure. Holding these poses keeps your muscles engaged without stretching or contracting, creating stability and strength throughout your body.
On top of that, the plank isn’t just great for your heart—it’s also better than crunches or sit-ups for strengthening your abs and core! So, every time we hold a pose in class, remember: you’re not just building endurance; you’re also protecting your heart and creating a stronger, healthier body.
A small effort during class can lead to big results in your overall fitness and wellbeing. Let’s embrace the holds and feel the transformation together!
