Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Gill (She/her)
4 of our regular FoodCycle Goodgymers put their well honed veg peeling skills to the test this afternoon as we had been asked to prepare the vegetables for the St George's Day charity meal for pensioners tomorrow. We started peeling and chopping the ingredients for the vegetable soup, and before long there were enough carrots, swede and leaks prepared for two huge vats. Vera, who had requested our help was really pleased with the speed with which we worked so next put us to the task of peeling enough potatoes for 70 - 80 people to have 4 roasties each. Just when we thought we'd done enough she announced she also needed enough potatoes to make enough mash for the same number of people. We had finished one sack of potatoes, but as if by magic, Vera produced another sack, and we carried on peeling. We soon lost count of how many we had done.
Then it was onto peeling even more carrots and cutting them into coins to accompany the main course. Vera had allowed three hours for us to complete the mammoth amount of prep but she hadn't factored in just how efficient a GoodGym team can be and we were finished in record time, including enough time for Gill to wash up, Ruth to sweep the floor, and Myra to liquidise the soup.
Thanks Team, Vera was really appreciative of our help and we are all invited to go back to the Community Centre tomorrow if we would like to have dinner with the folk. And I promise you won't have to peel another spud!
