Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Yianny (he / him)
This evening's group run was a special one to launch the partnership between GG and our new besties at Raleigh Bikes (see below for more info)! There were sweeties on tap which was handy to keep energy levels up given we had to run at least 800 metres from our base to Max Roach Park where the task would take place!
First up a warm welcome back to Lambeth Group runs to Rebecca from our sister group in Southwark, it was lovely to have you with us! We recycled our category from last week which was famous duos with such classics as Laurel and Hardy, Asterix and Obelix, Paul and Stella and the fantastic French & Saunders!
Given it was such a short distance to the task it was good that Clare had already done a lunch time run and Michael arrived running up Pulross Road just in time to catch us before we set off.
Once at the park we met James (aka Father Nature) who explained our task to create a channel down the middle of the maze that has been prepared so that the Lavender can be planted. In fact lavender needs good drainage so a three tier system will be put in place including clay balls, sand and coconut husk to ensure it grows well - you learn something new......!
With spades and hoes and now joined by Marie-Noelle and Paul our walkers, the group set to digging the channel but not before a quick demo of how we expect school kids to run around the maze (some imitating aeroplanes) led by James (see pics).
AA Yianny had to shoot off during the task so it was over to Run Leader / Task Force hero Joao to lead the intrepid group the short distance back to Papa's - big thanks Jo!
So that was that, a great fun task and we can't wait to head back in a while to see the progress of the growing Lavender.
**From our friends at Raleigh:
GoodGymers and Joyriders, unite.
We’re so pleased to be collaborating with GoodGym to spread the joy of cycling and offer an alternative way for you to do your great work.
Raleigh want to demonstrate how cycling is a great option for GoodGymmers who are travelling further distances or across mixed terrain - but also to show how much fun it is too!
Being able to support GoodGym and our combined passion to get more people on bikes, we know that cycling has many benefits for GoodGymers. Cycling to sessions can enable GoodGymers to travel quicker to locations meaning that more sessions can be accessed around their own schedules. They can also complete good deeds further from home as well as continue to participate if they do experience injury or accessibility issues. Cycling uses different muscles to running, and a combination of the two can help prevent injury as well as target more muscle groups when working out. Mixing up different types of active travel can help you keep your good deed streak whilst also remaining injury free.
Whether you’re new to cycling, or an aficionado, we want to help support your cycling journey. Here at Raleigh, we want to bring our knowledge and expertise to drive GoodGym's mission even further. Whether you'll love electric hybrids, folding bikes, cargo bikes or the classics, we are here to help you get further when it comes to doing good and getting fit.
Get going, GoodGymers and know that Raleigh are here to support the amazing things you do. As a hello and "thanks for having us", we also wanted to share with you first a discount code for 10% off your next Raleigh bike. Simply enter XXXX at checkout.
Welcome to the ever-growing community of joyriders. We look forward to seeing you soon. Team Raleigh.
