Arriving early to set-up, the weather was misty, but dry, so we were hopeful the rain would hold off until the finish. Tracey and I worked with Donna, Emma and Libby registering, giving the competitors their finish times and handing out medals and snacks. Mel and Darin did two drinks runs and a sandwich run throughout the morning keeping energy levels up amongst all the Marshalls and to keep them warm, as sadly the rain had come and we were all getting pretty ‘soggy’! Lauren and Erin joined the Marshalling team as ‘promoters’ of the Achieve and Believe upcoming events and in spite of the rain managed to avoid looking at all bedraggled and maintained their glamorous look (in spite of being photo bombed by Darin! :) ) SUP’s were added to the mix today for the 3rd in the Soggy Bottom Triathlon series, with people able to SUP the 1km instead of in a kayak, everyone moving to a 28km cycle and then a 5k run. The 5 kayak waves were Black Ice Wave, Sorbet Wave, Cherry Bomb Wave (group pictured waiting to set off in the kayaks), Sunrise Wave and Citrus Twist. Just 2 SUP waves (without names). The sea was surprisingly calm and flat as a mill pond, with low wind affect. A few people took a soaking but Steve le Kayak or the jetski weren't needed to tow or help anyone back in to their kayaks and all made it safely back to shore. On completion, and if they'd completed all 3 triathlons, competitors received an additional ‘coin’ medal which would ‘join’ all 3 medals together (see picture) into a rather lovely potential picture. Snacks and water were available to boost energy levels. Lots of smiling faces, grateful for the cooler temperatures in which to take part. The groups made good times and we were able to pack everything down by around midday, and off to enjoy the rest of Sunday.
