Seals, Strolls and Soggy Bottoms!

Sunday 29th June

Written by Jen Stoneham

After volunteering at Eastney Junior parkrun, Andy, Dave and I walked down the never-ending Ferry Road to meet up with the rest of the crew. One Triathlon spectator was very kindly waving a "Go Team Jen!" banner, which gave me the oomph I needed to get to the end of the road!

Abby (and Unofficial GGer Drew), Katie and Sanat then met us as we headed out onto the water to paddle kayaks 2 miles through Langstone Harbour back to the Watersports Centre.

We weren't expecting to see any seals (a highlight of all kayaking trips!) due to tide times, but we were lucky enough to see two groups. The first lot were about half way along our journey, so there was time for a pit-stop to watch them dipping in and out of the water and having a good old sunbathe.

Once back, we helped the Believe and Achieve team to wash down all the gear, rock the kayaks and organise seats and life-jackets for storage.

We then enjoyed a warm but pleasant walk back down the Coastal Path, where we think we may have spotted our seal friends from land.

This was one of my favourite GG tasks ever, i hope you all had as much fun as I did!

Marathon Marshalling

Sunday 22nd December 2024

Written by Judy Knapp

The runners had taken on a full marathon or half marathon, many of them in Xmas gear. One even juggled three balls for the full 26.2 miles!

And the 4 GoodGymers did a marathon shift of marshalling, in the cold wind & the sleety rain. We handed out refreshments, collected cups and bottles and cheered on the runners.

F-f-f-festive runs

Sunday 18th December 2022

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

The cold and wet didn't deter all the festive runners. Doug and I had the task of first setting up a small water station (should've been a tea hut today!). Then we were directing 10k runners right, shortly followed by 5k runners to the left. Once that was done it got more complicated for a little while as we tried to work out who was coming back to turn to the finish and who was halfway (10k runners).

We met the Grinch too!

We got lots of thank yous and gave up our marshal points about half an hour after we'd lost feeling in our hands and toes!

Happy Christmas everyone 🎄🎅🙂

Hi viz and soggy bottoms

Sunday 24th July 2022

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

Well done to the hi viz heroes who git up bright and early on Sunday to marshal the third and final soggy bottom triathlon.

The organisers and participants were very grateful (shame we can't say the same about a few of the locals!)

The reward was a lovely kayak afterwards.

Jubilations

Sunday 5th June 2022

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

Helped out registering the runners and multi-eventers for their 70km adventure.

Great weather for running, the initial wave of kayakers got a headwind and turning tide to challenge them.

Also packed 90 goody bags for the finishers.

Left after 6 hours as I was also taxi service!!
