17 Runners ran to St Mark's Church in Widcombe to scrub old paint off of the railings to prepare them for a fresh coat of paint. We were super speedy and finished earlier than we thought, so took a longer route back to our starting point. Our hosts, a member of the Board of Trustees which oversees the Church, was incredibly impressed by our work and our enthusiasm. We will be back again next week painting the railings!
We met inside the Leisure Centre on account of the wet weather. For the next few months we will be meeting inside the main reception at the Leisure Centre - so please come inside to find us!
Well done Nicola!
Well done to Nicola for achieving a massive 50 good deeds! Incredible dedication and hard work! Keep it up!
Welcome Max!
We welcomed a new runner, Max, to the group. Max has experience volunteering and was keen to be part of the team and help us out tonight.
We ran along the River Avon and across Widcombe Parade to the church. Our host, Phillipa, met us and gave us some information about the church. The building is now deconsecrated, meaning it is used only for non-religious purposes. Lots of community groups benefit from using the building, such as a pre-school group, a puppy training class and a regular ballet class.
Don't rail on my parade!
The task was to use wire brushes to scrub lots of old paint off of the railings at the back of the church. This is to keep the church grounds looking fresh and clean and also to help maintain them. The building and the grounds are hundreds of years old so essential maintenance like this is necessary.
Off the rails!
To make sure we didn't get any harmful paint on us we made sure we were wearing protective goggles, dust marks and protective gloves. We looked like a group of lost surgeons!
Thanks to Emily for volunteering to be Walk Leader this week. Lots of our shorter runs now have a 'walking' option to make them more inclusive and open. So if you want to come and join us at a shorter run but aren't comfortable running then check our Run Listings to see if a Taskforce member has signed up to be a Walk Leader (below the Date/time information on the right).
Thanks to Chris for backmarking for us last night and thanks to Rob for the pun!
