Monday 12th January

Bennath Atkinson earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Bennath completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Bennath was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Today saw our return to Bath Organic Group, after a very long hiatus. This used to be a popular mission and we were all looking forward to getting back into it.
We were casually greeted and given a quick fire guide of the tasks up for grabs. These included: hedge laying (not an easy task for the uninitiated, and I speak from experience), cutting back some pesky willow trees and our favourite, carting wheelbarrows of mulch and spreading it over a raspberry bed and a gooseberry orchard. As usual, we all got stuck in! Four of us: Kate, Cosmo, Meyrick and Emily turned their hands to carting mulch and gently setting it down in the beds. The ground was very frozen and it did feel like we were tucking the plants up tight and warm. Ruth and Bennath made friends with the willow trees and gave them a good haircut.
A massive congratulations to Ruth! Today's mission marked her 100th! Thank you for your hard work and support!
A visit to BOG isn’t complete without a tea break and they didn’t disappoint. About an hour in we were called in for tea and cake and we had the opportunity to chat to some of the lovely regulars. After a little pit stop we got right back to it, and as ever time flies and our time was up.
It was so good to be back, and everybody had a great time. Fingers crossed we can make this a regular event! Failing that, there is a Wassail on the 17th January and we might all go for a bit of a shout and a stomp around to help the apple trees. I was told that last year they had a bumper crop, so I expect there will be plenty of cider!
Thanks all!

Well this is always a slightly sad occasion, taking down the decorations at St John's Court that we had so enthusiastically put up at the beginning of December.
Never quite as popular as its retrospective counterpart, there were still a good number of GoodGymmers on hand to do the deed. Tanya, James, Bennath and Meyrick were brave enough remove all traces of Christmas for the lovely elderly residents of St Johns Court.
On a positive note, it only took about 40 minutes so we were able to leave early. See you next Christmas St Johns!!

Difficult to justify how this will improve people's lives, but lets just say that it will mark the beginnin of a new and prosperous year for all.

Back once again! At Sydney Gardens, for a festive session before Christmas and or last visit before the end of 2025.
Five GoodGymmers rocked up, some festive, some not, (some forgot), and our task today was to lay wood chip on the flower beds adjacent to Park entrance to the Holburne Museum. Cosmo, Aaron, Bennath, Nev and Meyrick were on hand to help the Friends of Sydney Gardens, who were busy removing leaves from the aforementioned flower beds in order to prepare them for our wood chip./
Roughly in keeping with the usual algorithm that the heavier the material, the further away from where it is needed, wood chip is fairly light, so we only needed to barrow it about 10 yards from where we refilled.
There was a bit of urgency towards the end, as we really needed to finish the beds before the hour was up, but we made it.
Many thanks to the Friends of Sydney Gardens, who invited us for cake and mulled wine in the Pavilion afterwards.

Here we are again, the first Christmassy thing that happens every year is GoodGym rocking up to St Johns Court to decorate the place for the festive Season.
Couple of trees, plenty of tinsel, Christmas tunes on the ghetto blaster, this is when we all begin to realise it is Christmas at last.
To that end, these Christmas Elves were on hand to help - Cosmo, Kate, Tanya, Emily, Bennath, Nev and Meyrick 'elved' themselves to as many decorations as they could in the hour they had.
We did a great job, the main entrance Christmas tree is always the jewel, but trees were also put up in the dining hall and the TV lounge, with the usual residents on hand to help.
We will return in January to take all of this down - not as popular an event if I'm honest, might just be me on my own, but for Christmas at least, we left the place feeling festive.
