9 Goodgymers run to Emmaus to label DVDs before North Hill Reps
Another Wednesday another meeting of the Colchester Goodgymers.
First we learnt about how our involvement with Emmaus meant that the Colchester Emmaus community got special recognition at the Emmaus National Congress last weekend, for their links with the community, and they mentioned working with Goodgym in that. Then we learnt about some extra opportunities to volunteer with Colchester in Bloom, including this Friday morning at the Bergholt Road Allotments at 10:30am.
Then, we had a walking lunge warm up across the leisure world car park before running through the Town Centre to the Emmaus Warehouse.
Here, we had a task to do with DVDs. Jimmy explained that the almost 1000 DVDs had come from one bedsit and that we had to: - check the DVDs were in the boxes - Label each DVD with 4114 - Put the DVDs on the shelving in the neighbouring warehouse.
The 4114 is something to do with tracking for Gift aid.
So, we got to work. Emily showed her prowess with a pricing gun, Nicola did a lot of writing 4114, David found some DVDs that he didn't think were appropriate for anybody's viewing. Catherine and Ian did the running transporting the DVDs that had been labelled to the neighbouring warehouse, and Tommy, Lisa and Tav did the bulk of the checking the DVDs were actually in the boxes.
We were all done in about 25 minutes, and Jimmy told us that it would have taken someone a whole day to do the work we did, and that it was really useful as there are a few DVD collectors in Colchester this week, and he knows that about half of those DVDs will be sold this week. At £1 a piece, that's a significant income we've helped with generating.
We left feeling full of energy ready for the North Hill reps. It was Nicola's first time doing that on the open road, and Tav and Emily took the prize for the most hill reps.
We made our way back to Leisure World for a nice stretch before heading our separate ways.
Next week, we'll be doing some gardening for FirstSite.
