Report written by Steven Hitcham
We started the task by meeting Mark at the allotment off Woodcock Road at 10am. The plan was to dig up and tidy the area where the strawberries were already planted, ready for us to lay tarpaulin (to reduce future weed growth) and replant in a bigger area.
We dug, weeded, raked and snipped our way through 2 and a half hours. Who knew strawberries shoot out and create new roots for a new plant? Not us! The breeding of the plants meant we had over 150 strawberries to replant on our freshly laid tarpaulin, with almost a full basket full left over to give to other allotment owners.
Mark seemed pleased with the work we’d done and so were we! We hope to drop by the allotment in June to see the fruits of our labour.
