On a gorgeous evening for running, seven of GoodGym Colchester’s finest runners made a trip to Colchester Foodbank and laid a carpet – running 6.8km in the process.

With GG Colchester star Trainer, Angela on holiday, it was down to visiting GG Redbridge Trainer James, to lead the action this week. Ably assisted by an enthusiastic squad of regular runners the team quickly headed south along the River Colne.

There is only about a mile between the GG Colchester base and the Foodbank so within minutes the group were at the task ready to make a difference. This week’s task was to remove an old carpet and replace it with a brand spanking new one. It sounds easy but when the furniture is still in situ, it requires some brainpower and a few muscles to move everything around. No easy task.

With the top team on the job and a little bit of singing (?!) to pass the time, the old carpet was quickly removed, the new one laid and all the furniture replaced. The difference to the room was huge and Foodbank team were thrilled to see the change. Another big task, skilfully completed by a GoodGym team. Nice work!

The task was complete and there were still a few minutes of light left so the runners headed back along the river to take part in some High Five Fartleks – one of James’s favourite fitness sessions that focuses on perceived effort and pacing. It might involve high fives but it’s no walk in the park.

All this left was an easy cool down jog back to base for some light stretching. Another great task complete, a happy task owner and seven slightly sweaty runners. That is what you call success! Well done GoodGym Colchester.

A final big shout out to all the GG Colchester crew for bringing good vibes and making visiting trainer, James, so welcome.
