Seven hardy souls braved the cold to make massive progress clearing the overgrown space at Upper Norwood Methodist Church.

A big Bromley welcome to Rebecca who joined us for her first good deed, to Hilary who was visiting from Newham and to Louise who was visiting from the GoodGym behemoth that is York.

It was a chilly night so we did a quick round of jogging and sprinting on the spot to warm-up, with a few leg swings thrown in for good measure, before heading through the park and up LOTS of stairs to meet Pam and Ian at the task. Ian had very helpfully brought tools for us all to use after Pam's car had broken down earlier in the day, inspiring the pun.

Thankfully we had super-bright lights and head torches to shine light on the space at the back of the church that we had started to clear on previous tasks. It was looking so much better than on our first visit, but there was still a stubborn tangle of brambles to be tackled. The team wasted no time getting stuck in and had soon created a huge pile of cuttings, ready for Pam to clear at the weekend. It is amazing what a difference seven pairs of hands can make to a space. We look forward to future visits to carry on with the project, and to admire the fruits of our labour at a promised barbeque once complete!

The group thinned out on the run back and soon there were only 4. I took our tourists on a trip through Crystal Palace park to see the dinosaurs, before a quick fitness session outside the cafe. We did some triceps dips before introducing them to Moby and the now infamous 'Bring Sally Up', aka the squat song. It was only a short hop back to the start where we stretched before heading off home for some well earned dinner.

As an aside, I learnt that Sam had a '30 before 30' list of amazing challenges that he is working through before he hits the big 3-0 in just under a years time. Veganuary is nearly over and will soon be another 'tick', it's a shame Bradley's advice came at the end of the month! An ultra run, plans to learn carpentry and build his own chair, and cage diving with sharks are just 3 more on an amazing sounding list. Definitely also worthy of a mention is to hit 100 good deeds, which he will be able to tick off this weekend, with an amazing 5 good deeds lined up this week. Massive kudos to Sam!

Next week's task is a new one, delivering flyers for the wonderful Ignition Brewery, who are having a fundraiser to raise money for Sydenham Christmas lights. Ignition trains local people with disabilities to work in the brewery and bar, a wonderful social enterprise that deserves our support. As an added bonus, we have been promised a beer afterwards. I'm tempted to use the "headtorch" photo to replace the current picture on my goodgym profile - what do you think?

Thanks for the mention of my challenges and if all goes well I should be on 101 when I see you next week! 😊
