My work place was asked last minute if we could help from 12-4pm. Only 1 person allowed to leave work today & tomorrow. I was the lucky chosen one for today!! Definitely a ‘first’ day for me - 1st lateral flow test, 1st time at vaccine clinic, 1st time having ‘no real plan’. I’ll explain - I was in the waiting area as people arrived, with another volunteer from 12-2. He was then moved - I was on my own whilst a steady stream of people came in. They were mostly elderly as they were coming for their 2nd Pfizer Jab.
Umm... learnt pretty quick I should have had a system - when asked ‘what’s your system & who is next?’ I just smiled, laughed & said ‘who knows’. It was ok though as I had already made an announcement to the waiting area that I had lost any plan I had & asked them not to be offended if I didn’t remember what order they were!!!! I did say next time I would do it like a bingo session. Most people chuckled or I think they did by looking at their crinkles around their eyes!!! I was giving out an ‘X’ for them to put on their seat when they left - it was almost like an ‘X Factor’ Audition at one point!! Then I was getting them in the queue along with wiping seats.

After a while back-up came, they took control of a seating plan & order was resumed!!! 😂 Only managed a quick selfie.

A very rewarding afternoon, made nicer by handing over to Mel!!! I can quite understand why people enjoy volunteering there. I was looked after & met some other lovely volunteers.
