Big thank you to Hilary for leading Jack and Becky on her first run with GoodGym along the rainy pavements of Newham from Jom and Tonic to the Up Garden.
James also joined us for his first GoodGym task but like Paul,Kevin and I made his way directly to The Up Garden dodging the puddles.
Gabion bench filling was the task for tonight 6 benches and 6 seats need stones placing in the baskets to ensure they will not move.
We split into 2 groups wheelbarrow fillers which due to the amount of rain washed the stones ready for the others to fill the baskets.
We were all very grateful for the pergola to shelter under for a few minutes during a very heavy downpour but as it eased we pushed on to get the last baskets filled.
Baskets filled and seats in place we said our goodbyes before heading off into the night to get home for a hot bath and a large mug of tea.
We will be heading back to E7 next week to prep a wall ready for a mural https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/wall-mural-prep
We are transforming a 900sqm disused laundry yard in a council housing estate into a free-to-access community garden and play space focussing on upcycled materials. It will be a place for everyone to learn about gardening, biodiversity and eco-sustainability in a social environment, whilst the open play space will include play equipment that – unlike typical playgrounds – has multiple uses to encourage creative interaction. Together, they provide different levels of exercise, and the opportunity for our younger and older generations to socialise outdoors, improving physical and mental health.
