Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kash
We ran past the busy streets of Herne Hill, zigzagging between crowds heading to Brockwell Park for Lambeth Country Show. Mr D was not supposed to be at home in the afternoon, so we were greeted by his partner who offered us cold water and showed us their back garden. A metal flight of stairs led to a small but beautiful patio, currently covered by a thick layer of leaves. Clearing the leaves was our priority and the secondary task would be trimming the vines on the stairs' railing. The stretch task was taking down bindweed growing on a tree but we weren't sure if we can reach it.
After Sevan cut the naughty twigs obstructing the way downstairs to the patio, he joined Kash in a big leaves sweep. The result of that project filled 7 or 8 green bags that would be later used for making compost.
We had about 15 minutes left to give the bindweed task a try, and then wrap up. We used a long hook found in one of the pots to bring the vines closer and pull them. That way we removed some of the bindweed and ivy but the problem still remains as the invasive vines are coming from another garden at the basement level and are not easy to reach.
Mr D's partner was very happy with the leaves gone from the pavement slabs and plant pots. We hope he and Mr D will enjoy it in the summertime.
