Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Helen Conner (she/her)
On a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, 3 Goodgym volunteers met in a secret walled garden on the outskirts of Bath.
We arrived with gardening gloves and were ready for action. When you think of gardening you don't think of cardboard boxes. But that is exactly the kind of gardening we did here at the secret walled garden.
We began by stripping boxes of any plastic and then we laid them flat on the ground. The cardboard helps to block any light to the ground and therefore helps to prevent the weeds from growing.
Our next task was to shovel lots of mulch into wheelbarrows and then place it on top of the cardboard. Together with the carboard it will begin to decompose and will eventually make great soil.
We then moved piles of branches to the corner of the garden and finished with weeding in a small area of the garden ready for planting.
2 hours passed very quickly and before we knew it, our tasks were complete. Time for fish and chips for Maryam at the lovely Robbies Place, a beautiful run for Doris back along the canal and Helen walked back home. Great work team, well done!
