In the midst of the relentless rain on Saturday, a quick phone call to Mrs R took place to ask if we could defer the mission until dryer times on Sunday. Mrs R was grateful for the call and somewhat sceptical that the weather would improve in time. Don't worry, I assured her... I've checked the forecast and it'll all be fine....

Sunday arrived and good news....the skies were clear and the rain wasn't predicted to return all day. So, despite both nursing injuries, Michael and I met at the home of Mr J and his wife Mrs R. They'd had a tough time of late with some health problems and really wanted our help with the garden and some of the weeds that were starting to take over.

Michael and I got to work, chatting about all things horticultural and allotment related as well as musing on how we could accelerate our recovery from injury. Mr J popped out to check on progress and offer us a cuppa. Mrs R also kindly gave us a choice of cakes and sweet treats (including cherry bakewells - a classic!). Whilst sipping our coffee, we chatted to Mr J about GoodGym and running. Mr J confessed that he used to be a runner and had completed a sub 3:30 marathon in Bristol. Mrs R had also completed the London Marathon. Wow!

We returned to work, staying longer as we wanted to do a good job for our new friends. Weeding complete and time to pack away and return home. Mr J and Mrs R were super grateful for our work and noted how supportive everyone had been during these recent tough times.

This was my first mission in some time and a good reminder of the impact that GoodGym can have.
