Report written by Anwen Greenaway
A dedicated quartet of GoodGymers did a thorough tidy up of the South Oxford Family Room garden - lopped brambles, swept leaves, tidied toys, dismantled an overgrown arbour, and barrowed in a tonne and a half (at least it felt that much!) of woodchip to lay paths and de-mud the ground around the mud kitchen.
We were grateful for the tea, coffee and snacks provided, and relieved that the loud boom we heard was a sonic boom from a military aircraft and not the end of the world.
South Oxford Family Room (SOFR), a former designated Children's Centre, is now a registered charity, governed by the community and a sub-committee of governors at Grandpont Nursery School. We deliver a charitable, community-led initiative which works with parents, children and our wider community to provide an inclusive, welcoming and supportive place for families and give children the best start. The family room offers universal. inclusive, open-access activities. Our regular sessions are currently Stay and Play Monday 9.30-12 and Friday 9.30-12.00noon, Join us for outdoor play, healthy snack and group music and singing. On 3rd Saturday of the month we offer family fun/ Saturdads, 10.00am - 1.00pm, a stay and play session that enables dads and mums to enjoy time with other families and their children.
