Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Becs Clarke
This morning, Andrew and I met at Ms B's house to help her with an urgent and essential task.
Andrew tackled the cold by running the distance, whereas I opted for a speedy power walk to pace myself for my next 2 tasks later on today.
Ms B needed a mattress, divan bed frame, and headboard moving out of her cosy flat just in time for the NHS to deliver a hospital bed the same morning.
The occupational therapist from Homerton Hospital met us promptly at the entrance to the building and took us up to Ms B's place. Before we could move the items he safely helped Ms B into the living room so she could watch all the happenings from a comfy spot on the sofa.
After wishing Ms B a good morning, safely clad in our face masks and gloves we quickly got to work moving the furniture down the stairs and out through the fire door and in front of the property. We had a couple of brief but lovely chats with the other residents in the block who were impressed by Andrews choice of shorts on a bitterly cold morning!
The OT explained that before the hospital were introduced to GoodGym, these sort of hospital bed tasks were a lot harder to make happen. So although it was cold, and the streets were eerily empty, I went home from the task feeling warm hearted and like I'd made a difference. Sometimes, putting a little good back into the world when other things feel a little bad is all it takes.
