Report written by Martin R
Sometimes, despite best intentions, things just don't turn out how they're planned. Tonight's task was one of those instances. 3 of the Luton team turned up to the Shri Guru Ravidass Sangat Gudwara to help out with a 'near neighbours' funded project. The project involves the Aunties from the temple, cooking for and with a group from another community. In this instance it was members of the Roma trust and the link centre, 2 local community groups. Unfortunately, both groups had to cancel at the last minute and the temple was left with a lot of ingredients and no one to cook show how to cook the meals. Fortunately some friends of the temple turned up so there were some people to cook with and the aunties got to share their skills in the and we all chipped in with the cooking, cleaning (and eating). It was great. Mayra was having Chapati for the first time and explained how they were very similar to the tortilla from her home country. Derrick took charge of buttering up 🧈 the chapatis when they came off the stove and then turned his hand at cooking them too. We helped to make, Aubergine and potato curry, with chapatis and rice pudding for dessert. After eating we all helped to tidy up and were thanked for our support. There will be more opportunities to support the Gudwara over the coming weeks, so look out for the tasks and sign up to learn a new skill whilst helping this fantastic organisation deliver another project that bridges gaps between cultures and brings communities together.
The objectives of the Shri Guru Ravidass Sangat and Community Centre are to advance the Ravidassia principles of equality, social welfare and worship
