SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Simon Fitzmaurice
The Goodgym crew were invited back to Crouch End Open Space again this Sunday, to help the Friends of CREOS with an ambitious winter project. 6 runners, walkers and cyclists from all different Goodgym boroughs (including Shona who was participating in her first GG session- welcome!) joined the regular volunteer team at the Hanley Tennis Courts car park. Glenys, the main coordinator for the task, showed us all the way to the forest paths, linking Crouch End and Highgate, and explained about their plans to strengthen the footpaths over the winter months, ready for the year ahead.
10 large bags of building aggregate had been dropped off at the car park, ready for our full group of approximately 10-12 volunteers to distribute evenly along the paths. Throughout the session, we shared roles between shoveling the material, and wheelbarrowing the aggregate along the footways leading to CREOS meadow. Meanwhile, we took it in turns to play ball with an adorable dog (owned by one of the volunteers) whenever we needed to take a break (the puppy never tired out!). It was truly a team effort, and we successfully shifted almost 8 full bags within 2 hours!
We downed tools, and returned the barrows, rakes and shovels to a neighbouring garden shed. Upon our return, we were met with an amazing picnic spread- hot parsnip soup, cheeses, bread, snacks and cider was all on offer after a solid mid-mornings effort!
If you would like to join us for our next CREOS session, we have 2 more Sunday community missions listed:
Sunday 5th December- 11-1pm
Sunday 19th December (Xmas Special!)- 11-1pm
