Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Another trip to Boleyn Road for GoodGym Newham yesterday. With early forecasts of rain proving to be hollow threats, we had clear skies fit for an amateur astronomer to gaze the night away. An unfortunate phone drop early doors from Alex caused another crack to form on her screen. I reiterate what Rosie said, get on down to a cheap phone shop and haggle hard - like you're in a 12th century middle eastern food market.
We went through a few bits, reminding you guys of the free Thursday Pure Fitness Session, congratulating Alice on her double PB weekend. She got a 5k PB and a Half Marathon PB the day after, unheard of! Prakash also did his first race, very exciting place to be, times will only plummet. Tim and Siobhan hit the Parkrun as well, kicking off their weekend on a runners high. Plus Kev and Sharon did a 10k after a violent vomiting bug. Pretty active 'go out and get it done' attitude GoodGym Newham, inspiring stuff. We'll do a vote on where the next Parkrun should be. Believe we can do this on the Facebook group - join if you haven't already .This will be my return to running too, look forward to sharing some special grimaces and gurns with you all.
Random question was a touch more enlightening this week compared to our normal frivolities. "If you could have any skill, what would it be?" Lots of instrument expertise and language skills. Some singing, flying, astronaut(ing?), martial arts and bike maintenance too. I reckon, in due time, we can achieve most or at least some of these - surely?
Danced the 2miles over to Boleyn road, was met by the ever tireless, Myra. She also gave us a brief history of the land, funding and transformation timeline. It's been quite a journey over there, but looks like we have a lot more to do in the next month. We were instructed to shift large bags of soil over to a huge planter. It seemed like we'd get through half of this to begin with....however after some indomitable shovelling and rapid barrowing action we went through more than I had imagined. Then we released our secret weapon, 'team power', all hands on deck and we were hauling ass! About 7 people on a bag, dragging it tenaciously and then breaking backs to chuck it over and into the big planter. Loved watching this, was a beautiful symphony of determination. Someone smart once said "individually we are a drop, together we are an ocean" - who's up for getting this tattoo'd?!
Once we completed an insanely large amount of s***t shifting (I mean, let's be honest - the way that stuff was steaming and the looks I was getting on the train home), we made our way back to base, with an almost palpable sense of satisfaction. Rodrigo fell over in the blink of an eye, but got up even quicker - stoically flicked the blood away. Hope you're all good today.
Pleasure running with you all, next week we are at Cody Dock, for some heavy duty plant watering. Sign up here . It's a longer run and new task, i'm excited about the lovely route.
Have a corking weekend and run hard/easy/fast/slow just get out there.
Until next week
