Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sevan
A team of GoodGymmers arrived at the Armenian community's apricot tree to find the ground parched and the leaves drooping on all of the branches.
After evaluating the situation and their tools, they devised a plan, to scrape the dry soil and create channels for the water to be absorbed into. With a hand spade and trowel, the ground was prepared and leaves scraped away ready for the tree to be watered. The watering started slow and steady, with us waiting for the dry ground to absorb the initial liquid. Once that was done, the team managed to slosh 80 litres of top quality water around the base of the tree.
As the watering was completed, the task referrer came to see our progress. She posed for a photo with us and said that she hopes to see the community's tree thrive now after GoodGym's help.
Many years ago, with the support of Ealing Council, a symbolic Apricot tree was planted on the green between High Street and Bond Street in Ealing. The substantial Armenian community of Ealing meet at the tree annually alongside politicians and religious figures to commemorate the Armenian genocide. The tree provides a meeting point for the community and the plaque by it acts as a reminder to the wider public.
