Six GG Yorkies met on a sunny Sunday morning to help the Friends of Danesmead wood with some emergency woodchip spreading.

The woodchip supplies, meant for topping up the upper footpath in the wood, had been dropped in the wrong place. Four large mounds of it were now blocking the lower footpath. Our task was to clear as much as we could in 90 minutes.

We were joined by future goodgymmer (🤞) Sally, (a friend of the friends of Danesmead Wood) and Adam (future Sheffield Goodgymmer 🤞) who was up visiting his mum (another regular Danesmead wood volunteer) for the weekend.

Cara, Adam and Laura focussed on filling wheelbarrows with woodchip and Mitch, Sally and I ran the full wheelbarrows up to their final destination and back again. After two trips back and forth, it became clear that I should be recording it as a Strava activity, even though wheelbarrow running isn't yet a real activity category (check out the photos to see the results!). Meanwhile, Maddy took charge of raking our hastily dumped piles into a neat path and Tay split her time between shovelling and raking.

We'd cleared one and a half piles when we stopped for a short break at 11am to observe the 2 minute silence for rememberence day. It was also a good opportunity to refuel with some of Jude's excellent chocolate mocha tiffin.

Those who could stay for the last 30 minutes managed to finish clearing the second pile of woodchip, while Laura worked on carving a route through the last two piles so the footpath could be used again.

Job done, we ran, cycled and walked our merry ways home, pleased with our efforts on a very satisfying task!

Thanks to Katie, who wasn't on the mission, but thought up a pun for the run report anyway!
