Our runners arrived to find a weed strewn overgrown front lawn – a tough task ahead they feared – until Nathan came out of the front door and made excuses for his front garden!

A short run later, Nathan, Aimee, Emma and Lucy arrived at Mrs J’s house. Our mission - to clear the garden’s borders of weeds and widen the borders to make room for more plants. Lucy and Emma grabbed the spades and Nathan and Emma set about weeding.

We were thankful for Mrs J’s security spotlight illuminating the garden to aid us in our work and her friendly offer of drinks. Mrs J then arrived with the wireless radio tuned to the ‘Smooth Sanctuary at Seven’ – Barry White, followed by Bryan Adams, Tina Turner, Enrique Iglesias… the tunes kept coming, and YES Enrique, we did feel like heroes!

The borders were dug, the weeds banished, we’d filled Mrs J’s garden waste bin, failed to convince any neighbours to let us fill theirs, and then emptied some of Mrs J’s bin because we couldn’t move it. A pleased looking Mrs J waved us off as we set off for home, discussing just what it would be like to go walking in Memphis.
