This evening five GoodGym Cardiff runners ran to Rumney to help Rumney Seedlings to prepare for planting season. We were met by Mark who organises the community gardening group. As many of us had run here before we said our hellos before getting stuck into the task.

Aimee, Lucy, and Nathan painted some plantation beds a beautiful mint shade. They had all started painting the beds on a previous community mission, but couldn't finish when they ran out of paint. It was really satisfying to be able to see the task completed this time. The paint is pretty, but it also helps to protect the wood against the elements.

Martin and Mikey were tasked with taking up old turf and turning soil underneath in some other plantation beds, before adding a layer of mulch. Mark explained how they wanted to go down to the clay soil so that the beds would retain moisture for longer and not need watering as often. Planting was then going to start later in the year once it had time to compost. Hard work but good fun.

Everyone was chatting and catching up from over the holidays. Nathan was also stealing some gardening tips from Mark the expert. Hopefully Nathan will share all the veg he grows with his friends in GoodGym.

It could have been the sparkling conversation or the tunes coming from the fitness class next door (including a firm favourite - Salt N Pepa's Push it), but we were done before we knew it. Everyone was a but chilly, but we helped clean the brushes and took a group photo before saying goodbye and running home.
