Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nicky Woodall (she/her)
🥶 Four dedicated GoodGymmers braved the sub-zero temperatures to head to St John’s hockey pitch. (Some of us had come from COLD parkrun volunteering.) We were met by a smiling Tracy who gave us both instructions and tools to do the job 🍂
❄️ David and Nicky’s hands were so cold that they were basically non-functional. Fortunately, Rich’s hands of steel had survived the cold and were able to help us put gloves on and get things out of our bags 🧤
🏑 Our task today was to clear leaves from the hockey pitch. Initially, brushes weren’t ideal as the leaves had both stuck together and stuck to the pitch. Shovelling was the way forward, and very satisfying when you got a good frozen wodge of leaves or a few to stack the barrows with. We (fairly) quickly warmed up, shovelling and wheelbarrowing (especially when running with the wheelbarrow) 🍁
🥅 We cleared the patch to the goalpost in the hour, which was Tracy’s goal, and we may be back to finish the rest 👍
📸 After a quick photo, it was time to part ways, to a cafe to warm up before on to the next task ☕️
