On a rather drizzly afternoon I visited the Borough Food Cooperative in the basement of St George the Martyr Church. I received a warm welcome and as it was my first time volunteering I was asked to select the music. I chose '80s pop (with apologies to the other helpers!).

The first job was to move the food crates from the delivery area into the basement. Then the items were logged and transferred to the fridges or shelves. Next the fresh produce was sorted, removing anything going off. The final task was to clean the trays and tidy up the rubbish.

The food cooperative provides members with low cost food to help reduce food bills and tackle food insecurity. It also reuses surplus food to prevent food being thrown away.

Thank you Ingrid for helping out at Borough Cooperative last Wednesday! It's such a great task, which I've done once (during a half day I had). Sadly, it does clash with my full-time role otherwise I would help out every week. Great choice in music! :)
