This time the Young Carers Team at York Carers Centre asked us to help with delivery of pancake making kits to their young people.
The half-term pancake making and decorating activity session for young carers aged 5 to 18 is designed to give them a break from caring responsibilities and a boost to their wellbeing.
There were 28 pancake making kits, each consisting of a paper bag full of ingredients, sauces, marshmallows and an apron, available for collection from Chris’s house throughout Sunday and Monday.
Egg kicked the task off by taking three parcels to young carers in New Earswick and Haxby.
Debs stepped in for Mitch, who wasn't feeling well, and straight after a mission in Strensall cycled to deliver 6 parcels to addresses in Woodthorpe and Foxwood. She wasn’t as lucky with the weather as the rest of us and picked the rainy-windy time of Sunday late afternoon for her delivery.
On Monday morning Michal went on my bike to Tang Hall and Heworth with 5 parcels in my rucksack, but caught flat tyre after delivering only two of them. I was too far from the third address on my list to walk there and headed back home. I had to go back later in the afternoon to deliver the remaining 3.
Before heading off on her bike for a long ride to Rufforth and Long Marston Leanne checked her tyres and packed the puncture repair kit. Leanne’s delivery round was 30km long!
Michael had 3 pancake making kits to deliver to addresses in Wheldrake, Fishergate and Southbank. His heavy delivery run route was just under 37km long!
I’ve sent the list of who delivers where back to Chris a bit too early and unintentionally omitted Paula – sorry again Paula! Chris however found a delivery round for Paula and she took a parcel there on Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile Kay picked up her allocation and was on her way to two addresses in Acomb.
Laura got a little bit lost while cycling in Clifton and Rawcliffe, however she successfully delivered the four packs that she had.
Thanks to us Young Carers now have the items necessary to participate in tomorrow's Zoom pancake making session.
Amazing effort everyone and look out for the short video that Chris will be putting together.
Our mission is to challenge the inequalities that carers face and ensure, through partnership working, that carers of all ages and backgrounds have their voice heard and have access to quality support and services reflecting their identified needs and interests.
