A trip into the office today (last visited in March!) allowed for a short detour to help the lovely Ms M, who is embracing the internet for the first time. She’d been signed up for a course in getting online, which unfortunately the lockdown had pushed back, but at least today we were able to make a start by getting her mobile connected via her newly installed router and an email address set up. This should enable her to get going with some online grocery shopping – being able to order in heavy items every couple of weeks would really help, she reckoned and I agreed that sounded like a great plan.

Mobile set-up sorted pretty quickly, we wondered what else might be helpful – probably not Facebook, M thought, but YouTube sounded interesting. No problem, the app already installed, but where to start?! I can’t remember how it came up in conversation, but we’d already established that we were both cat people, so for demonstration purposes it seemed like a good idea to go retro and search for feline offerings (very 2006, although baby alligators were YouTube’s first suggestion today, so perhaps it hasn’t moved on that much…) As I left, M was feeling reasonably confident to have a go with various functions and see how she got on. She mentioned numerous times how grateful she was for all the help GoodGym had given her with shopping and TV fixing missions, so a shout out to the folks who’ve been to visit her before, it was a pleasure to be able to help today.
