This morning bright and early at 0530, Kat and I met up at a distance with our litter pickers and headed towards the beach to clean it after a weekend of hot weather which brought a lot of people to the sea. We didn’t get very far when we saw all the litter in Canoe lake which had blown to the side so we started clearing out most of that. The majority of it was blue bags, cans, plastic cups and polystyrene containers that had broken up. We fished around in between leaves and feathers to try and spot anything we’d missed. Kat had already filled up one bag. I found 4 lighters in a short space of time bobbing around. We headed to the beach where we found the usual litter of bottle tops, bottles, plastic cups and a load of wet wipes. We also spotted a lot of debris that had been left after a small boat had crashed yesterday. Kat rang the coastguard to check this was already known to them and it was. It was a shame as a lot of the debris from the boat is on the beach which hopefully will be collected today. On a happier note we saw Rosie our running for the first time since lockdown. It was great to see her out and about. With the nice weather continuing it looks like the early morning picks will become a regular task for us.
