After a full day of showers and rainfall, Area Activator Simon and Adam met outside the Arsenal Community Hub for this week's Goodgym Islington group run. The pair ran together via Caledonian Road towards Thornhill Square Gardens after a solid warm up session on the Emirates Stadium slopes.

Upon arrival, the crew met up with Alison, Emily and Caitlin (traveling on foot or by bike) and volunteer coordinator Anna for a lovely evening of garden maintenance.

Emily and Alison were in charge of weeding and pruning a full flower bed towards the south side of the square, collecting loads of green waste for composting- while taking care to avoid some persist brambles.

Caitlin and Adam were tasked with attempting to remove some very fast growing plants from another flower bed. The only problem is that the roots of these weeds go really far underground, so we needed to use spades and forks to try and dislodge them. It proved to be pretty hard work, but we completed our tasks to the best of our abilities!

Well done everyone, See you next week!

'A quiet oasis off Caledonian Road. Plenty of space (it is the largest square in Islington) to picnic, rest, read, admire the flowers shrubs and trees, and walk a dog. Volunteers, with the council are working to encourage healthy activities, including walking and yoga, and also to improve the diversity of wildlife in the park.'
