Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Bristol runner
Thanks to Darren for leading this week's run and writing the report...
On Saturday 13th May, 7 runners trotted up to The Golden Hill Community Garden in Horfield to help them with a few bits and pieces ahead of their summer fair. With some misgivings as to whether it was a fayre or a fair that we were helping them prepare for, I've set aside linguistic pedantry in a bid to write an accurate account of what happened. I didn't take detailed notes, I've just left it to fete with regards to what I can remember to include in this report ...
The Golden Hill Community Garden aims to increase the skills and confidence of local people in growing their food. They offer training and volunteering opportunities and aim to be financially sustainable through social enterprise. You can find out more about them on their website.
Ahead of their Summer Fair, we were required to do a bit of last minute bunting hanging and weeding . With metres and metres of bunting to hang, we had to get creative. We adorned the gates, flower beds, portaloos and anything that was nailed down with the colourful bunting. Once we'd finished, it looked as though Spiderman had eaten a bag of skittles before throwing up in an elegant fashion.
Just as we were leaving, the cakes started to arrive and it was clear that those who grow their own food make the best food! Either that or you just reap what you sow. Regardless, we were just happy to help and welcome a new runner (Christian) into the fold . With so many GoodGymmer's running in Riga we were a depleted force but no less effective. Well done to all of those who took part both in Riga and in Horfield!
